BYK-025 is a silicone-containing defoamer designed for aqueous high-gloss emulsion systems and adhesive formulations. Known for its high compatibility and ease of incorporation, it is ideal for use in waterborne adhesives and various coating applications, including curtain coating. It is particularly effective in polyurethane-based systems (PU) and offers excellent defoaming properties. BYK-025 belongs to the chemical family of polysiloxanes and is widely used for improving the quality and appearance of coatings and adhesives by controlling foam.

Application Information

Coatings Industry

Special Features and Benefits

BYK-025 is recommended for non-pigmented acrylate/polyurethane and polyurethane high gloss emulsion systems. The defoamer is especially recommend for curtain coating application, since it is very easy to incorporate and allows optimizing dosage by post-addition while the paint is running on the curtain coater.

Recommended Levels

0.1-1.5 % additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions

The additive can be added at any time during production. The amount of defoamer used is often divided (by adding 2/3 into the millbase and 1/3 into the let-down or finished product).

Adhesives

Special Features and Benefits

BYK-025 is a highly compatible defoamer and is specifically recommended for sensitive aqueous adhesive systems.

Recommended Levels

0.05-1 % additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions

The additive can be added at any time during production. Since the defoamer can be easily incorporated, it allows optimal dosage by post addition.
