Application Information

Coatings Industry
Special Features and Benefits

The defoamer has been specifically developed for universal use in APEO-free emulsions. Thanks to the addition of a silicone, it achieves an excellent level of effectiveness. BYK-038 should preferably be used in emulsion systems with a PVC range between 30 and 70.
Recommended Use
Particularly recommended for emulsion paints and high gloss emulsion systems but also for emulsion plasters. The defoamer may also be used in the production of emulsion binders.
Recommended Levels
0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based on total formulation. In exceptional cases up to 0.8%.
The dosage levels are indicated for the purpose of orientation. Optimal dosage levels are determined through series of tests.
Incorporation and Processing Instructions
Generally, 2/3 of the defoamer are added to the millbase and 1/3 is added to the letdown or the finished paint. Sufficient shear forces are necessary for incorporation in order to avoid negative side effects.

Household, Industrial, and Commercial Cleaning Agents
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-038 is a silicone-containing mineral oil defoamer for aqueous care products and cleaning agents, which can demonstrate its considerable defoaming effect already during production. This effect is maintained after application.
Recommended Levels
0.3-1% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation.
The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.
Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive is preferably added at the start of formulation, however it is possible to use it at any stage of manufacture.
