BYK-039 is a mineral oil-based, VOC- and silicone-free defoamer designed for aqueous emulsion systems with a PVC range of 35-70. It is free of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE) and is particularly suitable for high-solid polyurethane (PUR) leather coatings. This defoamer effectively controls foam formation, improving the consistency and quality of coatings, while being compliant with industry requirements for silicone-free, VOC-free, and APE-free formulations. It is classified under the chemical families of mineral oils and paraffins, offering a high level of performance in various coating applications.

Special Features and Benefits
The defoamer has a broad application spectrum and covers the PVC range of 35-70. BYK-039 is VOC-free (< 1500 ppm), silicone-free and does not contain alkylphenol ethoxylates. The additive is recommended for use in emulsion and exterior wall paints and emulsion plasters. In high-solid PUR leather coatings, BYK-039 facilitates vacuum deaeration and improves the air release after application.

Recommended Levels
0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation, in exceptional cases up to 0.8%. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
2/3 of the defoamer quantity is usually added to the millbase and 1/3 to the let-down or the finished paint.
