BYK-051 N is a silicone-free, polymer-based defoamer that offers excellent compatibility with solvent-borne systems. It is designed to control foam formation and improve the stability of formulations, particularly in solvent-based coatings. This liquid defoamer provides high effectiveness at low concentrations and is suitable for applications requiring silicone-free formulations.

Special Features and Benefits

BYK-051 N is the most compatible defoamer in the BYK-051 N/BYK-052 N series. It is particularly effective in polar solvent-borne systems. In non-polar systems, it is less effective. Due to its excellent compatibility, the transparency of clear coats is rarely impacted, even at higher dosage levels, and craters do not form in sensitive systems.

Recommended Use
The defoamer is recommended for solvent-borne automotive OEM coatings.

Recommended Levels
0.05-0.5% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The dosage levels are indicated for the purpose of orientation. Optimal dosage levels are determined through
series of tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
To achieve optimal defoaming, the defoamer should be added to the millbase. If it is incorporated at a later time, sufficient shear forces must be ensured in order to achieve good defoamer distribution and to prevent crater formation.
