Product Application

Printing Inks and Overprint Varnishes
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-094 is particularly recommended for defoaming aqueous flexo and gravure inks and overprint varnishes. The defoamer is characterized by a highly spontaneously defoaming effect and its outstanding stability on the press. It prevents foam building up in the ink ducts and/or pump system.

Recommended Levels
0.2-1% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive is preferably used in the let-down, however it can be added at any time during production. As a result of its high activity the defoamer must be incorporated at moderate shear forces to ensure a good distribution. Otherwise defects may occur in the system.

Adhesives
Special Features and Benefits
BYK-094 is recommended for defoaming all common aqueous adhesive systems.

Recommended Levels
0.05-1% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined
through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can be added at any time during production.

Coatings Industry
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-094 is particularly recommended for pigmented and non-pigmented aqueous coatings. The defoamer prevents foam forming in the manufacture and application of the coatings
and has an excellent long-term effect.

Recommended Levels
0.1-1% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined
through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can be added at any time during production. The amount of defoamer used is often divided (by adding 2/3 into the mill base and 1/3 into the let-down or finished product).

Product Application

Coatings Industry
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-1724 is recommended for defoaming aqueous coatings based on pure acrylate, acrylate/polyurethane and polyurethane in the pigment volume concentration range (PVC) 0-25. The additive is effective when used in all standard application methods such as rolling, painting, spraying, and pouring.

Recommended Levels
0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation – in exceptional cases up to 1%. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can generally be added at any time during production. The defoamer should preferably be added to the let-down or be post-added.

Printing Inks and Overprint Varnishes
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-1724 is recommended for defoaming aqueous printing inks and overprint varnishes based on acrylate/polyurethane and polyurethane. Also for aqueous UV systems.

Recommended Levels
0.1-1% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can be added at any time during production. The amount of defoamer used is often divided (by adding 2/3 into the millbase and 1/3 into the let-down or finished product).

Adhesives
Special Features and Benefits

BYK-1724 is recommended for defoaming aqueous dispersion adhesives.

Recommended Levels
0.05-1% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can be added at any time during production. Household, Industrial, and Commercial Cleaning Agents

Household, Industrial, and Commercial Cleaning Agents
Special Features and Benefits
BYK-1724 is an Ecolabel-compliant silicone-containing defoamer for aqueous care products and cleaning agents, which can demonstrate its considerable defoaming effect already during production. This effect is maintained after the application.

Recommended Levels
0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive is preferably added at the start of formulation, however it is possible to use it at any stage of manufacture.
