BYK-1785 is a silicone-containing defoamer designed for aqueous systems, effective in eliminating microfoam across various layer thicknesses. It is water-soluble and compatible with wood substrates. Suitable for waterborne and wood coatings, it is APEO-free and functions as a defoamer in coating applications, particularly when applied using a roller. The product belongs to the polydimethylsiloxanes chemical family.

Special Features and Benefits

BYK-1785 is highly effective in aqueous systems of low to high layer thickness which are applied by means of an airless or airmix method. It is also suited to coatings which are rolled or painted. It is extremely good at removing microfoam from the coating and influences neither the transparency or gloss in high-gloss systems. BYK-1785 can be used in pigmented systems and in clear coatings. The additive is APEO free.

Recommended Levels
0.3-1% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation, in exceptional cases up to 1.5%. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive should preferably be incorporated into the let down at moderate shear forces. It is also possible to incorporate the additive into the mill base.
