BYK-W 969 is a wetting and dispersing additive for amine-accelerated UP, EP, and PUR systems and adhesives. It reduces viscosity in mineral-filled systems and integrates into the polymer matrix due to its OH functionality. It also extends gelling time in UP resins with cobalt accelerators.

Compatible Polymers & Resins: Acrylics, Epoxies (EP), Polyurethanes (PU)

End Uses: Epoxy Adhesive, Polyurethane Adhesives

Synonyms: 1-Hydroxy-2-phenoxyethane, 2-Hydroxyethyl phenyl ether, 2-phenoxyethan-1-ol, 2-Phenoxyethyl alcohol, beta-Hydroxyethyl phenyl ether, Ethylene Glycol Monophenyl Ether, Ethylene Glycol Phenyl Ether, Phenoxyethanol, Phenyl Cellosolve

Special features and benefits

BYK-W 969 is a monofunctional, deflocculating wetting and dispersing additive for mineral-filled, amine-preaccelerated polyester putty compounds as well as epoxy, acrylic, and polyurethane resins. It improves the wetting and dispersing speed of fillers during dispersion and reduces viscosity to enable an increased filler content to be achieved. The higher filler content improves sandability in applied and cured polyester putty compounds. The additive leads to a considerably increase in gelling time in cobalt- accelerated unsaturated polyester resins. It is suitable for all filled PUR systems. Due to its OH functionality, BYK-W 969 is incorporated in the polymer matrix and is therefore suitable for PUR systems in which
fogging and emissions are critical (e.g., automotive applications).

Recommended levels
Amount of additive (as supplied) based upon the filler:
UP putty compounds: 0.5-1.5%
PUR systems: 0.5-2%
Epoxy systems: 0.5-2%
Acrylate systems: 0.5-2%
The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.
Incorporation and processing instructions
For optimum performance, the additive should be added before the solids.
