- Application Information
Healthy cells of skin can be damaged by a number of extrinsic pollutants. Due to this process cell mem- brane components like arachidonic acid are released and changed into reactive metabolic substances. Among others also Leucotrienes are formed, which are strong mediators of inflammatory processes. They are also involved in the beginning and persistence of dermatitis. Phytosterols are able to influence the inflammation cascade and neutralize the undesired reactions of Leucotrienes. Phytosterols have a high potential to care dry and itchy skin which is close to eczema or atopic dermatitis. They even repair defect skin lipid bilayers and were in a number of cases more effctive than cortisone without showing its un- wanted side effects.
Their anti-irritant and anti-itching effect is appreciated for daily skin care, sun creams, lip sticks, pre- and after-shaves, for the care of very dry skin as well as for dermatological products.
