BYK-035 is a VOC-free, mineral oil-based defoamer containing silicone, designed for use in aqueous emulsion paints and high-gloss emulsion systems. It is APE-free and offers shear resistance, making it highly effective in preventing foam formation in plasterboard coatings and waterborne paints. Classified under the chemical families of paraffins and mineral oils, BYK-035 enhances the performance and quality of coatings by controlling foam, ensuring smooth application, and improving the overall finish.

Special Features and Benefits

The defoamer is particularly recommended for emulsion systems with a PVC range between 20 and 40. High shear forces do not negatively impact its effectiveness.

Recommended Use
Particularly recommended for high gloss emulsion systems as well as gloss and semi-gloss emulsion paints. Also suitable for emulsion paints / exterior wall paints with higher PVC as well as emulsion plasters.

Recommended Levels
0.1-0.5% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. In exceptional cases up to 0.8%. The dosage levels are indicated for the purpose of orientation. Optimal dosage levels are determined through series of tests.

Incorporation and Processing Instructions
Generally, 2/3 of the defoamer are added to the millbase and 1/3 is added to the letdown or the finished paint. Sufficient shear forces are necessary for incorporation in order to avoid negative side effects.
