BYK-342 is a silicone-containing surface additive for solvent-borne, solvent-free, and aqueous coating systems. It provides a strong reduction in surface tension, enhances substrate wetting, prevents cratering, and increases surface slip. This product is ideal for waterborne, solventless, and high solids coatings and belongs to the silicone chemical family.

Chemical Family: Polydimethylsiloxanes, Silicones

Features: Anti-Cratering , Good Antiblocking Properties, High Gloss, Improved Slip, Improved Substrate Wetting, Surface Tension Reduction

Special Features and Benefits

The additive provides a strong reduction in the surface tension of coating systems. It therefore especially improves substrate wetting and prevents cratering. Surface slip, gloss and anti-blocking are also increased.
Recommended Use
The additive is particularly recommended for all solvent-borne, solvent-free and aqueous coatings.
Recommended Levels
0.1-0.3% additive (as supplied) based upon total formulation. The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.
Incorporation and Processing Instructions
The additive can be incorporated during any stage of the production process, including post-addition.
Special Note
Unlike so-called silicone oils, this additive is very user-friendly. However, before use, one should determine in test series whether foam is stabilized in certain systems and check the recoatability and crater development.
